Toasted Sardine Bites with Pickled Garlic

Ingredients:

  • 1 can of sardines in tomato sauce

  • 3 cloves garlic (fresh or pickled)

  • 1 small red onion, sliced

  • 1 loaf crusty bread, sliced 1-inch thick

  • Butter, for toasting

  • Cooking oil

  • Pickled garlic cloves, drained

  • Fresh parsley, finely chopped (for garnish)

  • Salt and pepper, to taste


Procedure:

  1. Lightly butter both sides of the bread slices and toast until golden and crisp. Cut into bite-sized squares.

  2. In a pan over medium heat, add a splash of oil. Sauté the onion and garlic until fragrant and slightly caramelized.

  3. Pour in the entire can of sardines, including the sauce. Stir gently to combine. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Remove from heat.

  4. Spoon the sardine mixture onto each toasted bread square. Top with a slice of pickled garlic.

  5. Sprinkle with chopped parsley for a fresh finish. Serve warm and enjoy
